About the event

The project Life with Robert Schumann is a joint concert with two YoungArts Awards Recipients: Daniel Jung and Cristian Makhuli. The concert aims to create an intimate experience of Schumann through a program that captures the journey of Schumann’s life from youth to death. 


After a prelude featuring a four-hands duet by Schumann, the program begins with Schumann’s Kinderszenen (Scenes from Childhood). This piece captures the early experiences and characters of Schumann’s childhood both through a lens of first-hand experience and second-hand reminiscence during adulthood. 


The concert transitions into Schumann’s Humoreske, a reflection of Schumann’s interior emotional landscape, capturing the blend of humor with contrasting emotional states – from joy to melancholy, agitation to serenity. This section captures the interplay between Schuman’s two personas: Florestan (the fiery, extroverted side) and Eusebius (the dreamy, introspective side).
